Tonight I recited Spike Milligan's poem "On the Ning Nang Nong" from Silly Verse for kids at the CoCo Dailup in Croxley Green. I had two miserable confessions to make in my intro to the piece. I have made precisely no progress in my attempt to write an anthology of poetry, to be titled Stolen First Lines. Secondly my attempt to learn on the Ning Nang Nong by heart had also failed. I had to read the poem out from the book, but even so I felt the reading was warmly received.
Also tonight, Martin Slidel from playerist.webs.com performed two of his own poems. He also had copies of the second edition of Playerist available at the cost of £1. Twenty pages of poetry, art, photography and writing for one round pound, naturally I snaffled one right up.
The CoCo cafe sits on the A412, so somehow I couldn't help mentioning that I'd once written a fairytale about my local bit of this road in North Watford. Try googling "the Giant and the Beast" if you'd like to find out more.
